Happy Tuesday :)

Hellllllo friends! 

Happy Tuesday… another day closer to the weekend! Woo!

So I had another great morning :) I’m really LOVING these early starts. I had a 4:50 alarm and got up to lift for a little bit! I love being able to get up and work out in the morning. I feel so great all day, it’s ahhh-mazing! Hopefully I can keep this streak going and get up early tomorrow too!

Today, instead of running I decided to lift. It was nice to mix it up a little bit but I miss my run…even after one day. Thinking I’ll bounce back tomorrow? Anywho. I realized how much I LOVE dead lifts today and miss incorporating them in my workouts. Freaky? A little. Almost as freaky as this picture…

I did these bad boys with 12 pound weights (I know, I’m a weakling) and can still feel them in my hammys. I love love love moves that you can feel all day!

I was a little sore from my lifting today cause I haven’t had the time with Frolics and all. So what did I use? MY NEW STICK!!!! WOOOO. I offish have The Stick and am so in love with it. So. So. So in love with it. If you don’t have one, please consider investing… they’re literally god’s gift to runners and athletes everywhere.

I figured it’d be super handy for my first half marathon (which I have yet to plan out 100 %) but have decided will for sure be happening in the near future! Woo!

I even brought this sucker to Frolics to roll out between acts the other day… and so kindly shared to curious onlookers. Which brings me to my next point! I’m finding that through Frolics, I’m becoming so close with some of the most random people… and I absolutely love it. I’m starting to get to know a ton of people that I’ve known for the majority of my life but never crossed paths with or never thought I’d have anything in common with and am realizing how amazing they are. I was always such a strong believer that the show wouldn’t accomplish its ultimate goal of bringing our class together before we graduate, but I’m starting to think it might actually be working. It’s just sad that I never took the time to befriend some of these people until the end of my time with them cause they’re really SO great and I wish I could have spent more time getting to know them.

Frolics is ALSO making the fact that I’m graduating high school in less than 3 months SO realistic!! I can’t believe that this time next year I’ll be nearing the end of my freshman year in COLLEGE! It’s so surreal. My whole life really is changing so drastically and so quickly. It’s so so weird to think about!

Are you a morning person or a night owl? I never really thought I’d end up as one.. but I think I’m a morning person!

Monday Recap

Hello hello! :)

Hope everyone’s week started off well. Mine certainly did!

Anyone else have amazing weather today? The Rainbows made their 2012 debut and I loved every second of it.

So, the senior class at my high school puts on a show called Frolics every year. It’s basically just a bunch of random skits and things that we think that are funny but actually really aren’t. Anywho. It’s this Friday! And we have rehearsals every day from 3-10/10:30 leading up to it (Last week it was 3-7ish). But that’s why I’ve been MIA lately and I HATE it! I absolutely love being able to set time aside for a post and reading all my favorite blogger friends’ posts! I hate not having much free time :(

ANYWAYS! I thought I’d fill you all in on my Monday Funday! Ever have really really great days for almost no reason? Today was one of them for me. To the normal human being, my day probably would have been a nightmare… but I loved it… naturally.

Hereeee we go! So, I got up at 4:50 (woooooooo) and went to my grandparents’ house down the street. They’re away, so I went to take care of some household stuff and took full advantage of the treadmill in the basement :) I didn’t get much in but it was so worth it (3 miles is better than none right?)

Hahahahhahahaha oh my..just a little post run selfie. Whoever created the camera on the front of the iPhone is a genius in my book..I’m a notorious taker of selfies… consider this my warning to you. PS…why does my hand look so huge here? I promise this isn’t normal..

After a shower and all those morning shenanigans, I made myself some oatmeal (obvz) and Starbucks coffee on the Keurig- aka the most convenient household item in the world.

Monday’s bowl of oatmeal #1 <3 Rolled oats, chocolate protein powder, ch-ch-ch-chia, strawberries, and bananas! YUM. Bowl #2 was for dinner…(I have a problem, I know) and is not shown.

AND THE STAR OF MY MORNING! My grandparents’ cat, Dennis. First of all, I’m a strong believer that any cat named Dennis is bound to be amazing. This lil guy will prove that. He’s the absolute cutest…I may or may not have been playing with him while I should have been running out the door to school. :)

So glad to finally relax after a long, busy week..even if next week will be even worse! Sorry about the unpredictable posts. I’ve been SO busy with school and trying to get workouts in around it that I haven’t been getting home until like 9… then I crash. I promise I’ll step up! I hate not being able to keep up with my bloggy! Please bear with me! :)

I decided that today might be a good day to post some of my favorite favorite favorite workout gear. I’m in some of this stuff literally 90% of my time. One, because of my workouts and two, because they’re all so so so comfy I just can’t bear to take them off.

My favorite running shorts! So comfy I literally have like 9 pairs that I cycle through :) . If only I had these green & pink ones…next purchase maybe? Loving ‘em.

Again, if only I had these bad boys in this color!! These are perfect for hot yoga or running on super hot days!

Perfect for the winter and colder weather workouts! Or just casually wearing around cause they’re so comfy? Trust me, it’s been done… (PS. if you’re vertically challenged like yours truly- 5’1 and not compainin’- try the kids section! Better deals and they fit pretty much the same if not better length wise! I proudly rock my boys’ larges in these suckers)

The perfect work out shirt! Super comfy and breathable for workouts. When I’m not wearing these, I’m probably wearing those free tees you get from completely random places that you just love. But after a tough gym day these Nikes make it so I don’t look like I just casually strolled through the pool on my way out like some of the freebees do (ew)!

And last, but certainly not least, the sneaks! LOVE these! I’m on my second pair right now and would recommend them to anyone who has pancake flat feet like me. A complete dream. Plus they’re on sale right now…can it get any better?

BumbleBar Review!

I hope you are all having a wonderful week and are hanging in there- don’t worry, the weekend is almost here!

So, my new friends over at BumbleBar were so kind to send me a few samples of their junior sesame bars to review for you guys!

First, I thought I’d share a little background information about BumbleBar with you. (All of this information can be found on their website). Not only were they the first all organic energy bars created, but these yummy sesame bars are also a great gluten-free, vegan, kid friendly snack…aka, a yummy source of energy for pretty much everyone to enjoy (not to mention super eco-friendly which is a total gold star in my book! What’s not to love?)

Another great aspect of BumbleBar is their usage of ethical sourcing. I’m not overly knowledgeable about aspects regarding the whole business scene, but after reading up on it, I ended up finding ethical sourcing to actually be really interesting. There is a great explanation of what BumbleBar accomplishes with ethical sourcing on their website

Now, on to the bars! After trying their Amazing Almond, Chocolate Crisp, and Original Peanut flavors I came to the conclusion that everything about BumbleBar does not only look and sound great…but they make pretty awesome bars as well! I’m not a huge fan of super crunchy bars (and I for some reason associate sesame bars with being super crunchy?) so I was a little worried at first that I might not enjoy this aspect of them. But boooyyy was I wrong. They were the perfect consistency! And they were all super yummy! :) All three flavors were delish but I’d have to say that my favorite was the Amazing Almond. (Maybe because I’m freakishly in love with almonds lately? Who knows.) In my opinion, none of the flavors were too overpowering and I really enjoyed that. I noticed the sesame flavor in all of the bars though and enjoyed it. They also have a great nutritional value! Verdict: I’d for sure order some of these bad boys! I found the junior bars to be a really great snack cause they held me over until my next meal and were super tasty!

WIAW (kinda)

Helloooo :) Happy WIAW / Hump day! 

So my WIAW is super lame today… so sorry! I always forget to take pictures of my food…then I remember about them once all the food is gone…whoops.

FIRST THINGS FIRST!! Look what I got in the mail today… :)

MY IHERB (<– click da linkk!) ORDER! YAYYY! Aka now I can offish try my PB2 (which I was just so excited about that I had to buy one of each flavor..). I also still need to taste the dried apple but the Adora calcium is AMAZING. They don’t even taste like calcium chews (which, I am also a fan of) they taste like actual chocolates…except loaded with calcium! Being lactose intolerant, I need a calcium supplement daily and these are great! I a dark chocolate one for dessert tonight and absolutely loved it :)

Anywho..on to this week’s WIAW…what I have at lease! (sorry again!)

Breakfast was oatmeal with chocolate protein powder, chia seeds, banana, and raisins! (a chocolatey spin on the usual!)

Mid morning snack: a personal favorite of mine, blueberries and creme breakfast on the go by emerald…yummm :)


Lunch! PB&J, a Vanilla Almond Luna (my fave!), a nectarine, and granola! :)


Anddd dinner! Broiled salmon, steamed broccoli and cauliflower, and roasted sweet potatoes (orange & white). A usual in my household :)

And of course, a chocolate calcium disk for dessert!

Hope your weeks are all going well!

So I’ve been incorporating a lot more weight training into my workouts lately with lifting, leg presses..the whole 9 yards basically. During my workouts I usually do 4 sets of 12 reps at about 30lbs for my arms (I’m a weakling..I know). But anyways, my new workouts led me to wonder; what’s more beneficial- a lighter weight with more reps or a heavier weight with less reps? Does it even make a difference?
Well, my trusty friend Google gave me the answer. Yes, there is a difference.
To determine which workout to follow, you need to first decide what you want your look like. Long, lean muscles vs. strong, large muscles. More reps of a lighter weight lead to longer muscles, more weight with less reps lead to more tighter muscles. So, if you’re looking for the ripped definition of a body builder, more weight and less reps is the way to go. But, if you’re looking to lose weight or simple be toned and thin, more reps of less weight will do the trick.

You’ve figured out the exercises you should be doing, but what about the number of sets and repetitions? Your decision should be based on your goals. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends 8-12 reps for muscular strength and 10-15 reps for muscular endurance. They also recommend at least 1 set of each exercise to fatigue although you’ll find that most people perform about 2-3 sets of each exercise. In general:

  • For fat loss: 1-3 sets of 10-12 reps using enough weight that you can ONLY complete the desired reps.
  • To gain muscle: 3+ sets of 6-8 reps to fatigue. For beginners, give yourself several weeks of conditioning before going to this level. You may need a spotter for many exercises.
  • For health and endurance: 1-3 sets of 12-16 reps using enough weight that you can ONLY complete the desired reps.

Bottom line..

Weight loss: more reps, less weight

Muscle gain: less reps, more weight

And remember! Rest, rest, rest! Rest is SUPER important in weight training. During rest days, your muscles heal and recover after being broken down from your workout. It is also crucial because when you’re at rest, your Growth Hormone levels are at their highest allowing your muscle growth to flourish.

SO, kick butt in your workout but make sure you don’t work the same muscle groups day after day- REST IS IMPORTANT!

Also! I had such a great find this weekend!…

Crunch Dried Fruit by Sensible Goods…SO yummy! I’m a huge fan of dried fruit but hate how there’s always SO much sugar in it. Luckily, these bad boys have less that 11g of sugar! (way better than the 20+ in other brands) and not to mention they’re super delish! :) I found them yesterday, tried a bag, then went back out today to buy some more. Highly recommend these if you’re a dried fruit fan like me!

A little catch up!

Sorry for the lack of postage yesterday, it ended up being one of those days where I was going from one thing to the next and only spent about 5 minutes at home!

I’m happy to say that my gym break due to the weather is officially over! I felt so refreshed yesterday running on my first day back… so, maybe the 2 days of rest ended up being a good thing?

Has anyone ever tried Naan bread? It’s a type of flatbread and a new fave of mine. Check out Thursday’s dinner! White Naan pizza with asparagus and half was chicken, the other half was ham. SO good! I’ll have to remember to post the recipe! :) The naan was the prefect amount of “crispy..but not too crispy” for my liking. For sure having this again in the near future :)

Last night, while I was not blogging (</3) I ran a few errands with my friend, Lily. Originally intending to stock up on some protein powder, we hit Walmart hoping we would maybe save a few bucks as opposed to CVS or Trader Joe’s. LITTLE DID WE KNOW, Walmart has awesome food deals. And we both proudly walked away with one of these bad boys…

Yes, that is a jumbo sized container of rolled oats. Yes, I was out of them. Yes, I bought it…for about $4. And yes, I felt the need to take a selfie with it. I. Was. So. Excited. So, thank you Walmart for fueling my oatmeal obsession.

After our Walmart journey, I realized how much I really don’t like the vanilla protein powder I’ve been using lately and want to switch it up. I think I bought it on a “I’m out, this is all they have, I’ll just grab it” kinda whim not noticing that it doesn’t actually have as much protein in it as most other brands. So, this weekend I think I’ll try to find a new kind… any suggestions?

After our errands we then went glow bowling with some other friends. When I heard it was the big balls and no gutters kinda game I felt like I was being set up for a loss…I’m a candlepin kinda girl myself and rely the gutters as the reason that I don’t leave the alley in tears. To our surprise (and probably everyone else’s as well) we kicked butt! Overall it was such a fun night! I wish I could do something as fun tonight also but I have to babysit (something has to pay for all my oatmeal and bowling trips, right?).

What are your plans for this weekend? While I’m staying in babysitting tonight and all of you are having fun out in the real world with people your own age, please think of me.

What kind of protein powder do you use? Right now, I’m using this stuff by Jillian Michaels…at least I THINK that’s what’s in there.. I may have poured something else in when that got low. But whatever it is, I’m not that happy with it and for sure want to mix it up this week.



Dear Treadmill, I (surprisingly) miss you terribly.

Hi guys!

ONLY ONE MORE DAY UNTIL THE WEEKEND! Unfortunately, I’m not really looking forward to tomorrow cause I have 2 pretty big tests & REALLY need to crack down on some studying.. :/

FIRST OFF! I got a little surprise from Love Grown yesterday!

YAY Apple Walnut Delight! Let me tell ya…this stuff is DELICIOUS! ..and may or may not be half gone already… :) For sure ordering more! As well as all the other flavors!

Anywho! It’s still super snowy out in my parts of MA and the roads have been BAD so that means no running or gym time for me :( and I’m hating this! I honestly don’t know what to do with myself from 3:30-5 without the gym…I even found myself whipping out this bad boy…

Yep… that’s my mom’s Thigh Master… circa 1990… I really need to get back to my training!

This unwanted break from working out made me realize how much I take some of my everyday things for granted…for example, my good old friend the treadmill.

I’m missing this guy like crazy!! My body is DYING to move (more specifically, run) and this two day distance is much too much for me! I’m even starting to miss the occasional shocks I get while running and the really sweaty guy that always seems to pop up on the treadmill next to me. Watching Ellen at home is not quite the same and my food intake has jumped from “normal human being” to “out of control monster”. All this after 2 days?? Clearly I have a problem.. Wahh.

Well, I best be off to my studying…and mourning of the treadmill <;/3

Hello allll! Happy WIAW and Leap Day!

Hope everyone’s having a wonderful week so far! The weekend will be here before we know it :)

My failed attempt at being a little artsy...hahaha

CHECK OUT THE SNOW! It’s barely snowed once since October which is super rare in New England! Snow day tomorrow anyone? :)

Anyways! Back to WIAW :) I’m glad to say that I had a bunch of great eats this week! Here are a few of my faves…

Today, I had my usual breakfast- Oatmeal, protein powder, chia, and raisins!

For my “mid-morning snack” I had a Mountain Mix Cliff Mojo Bar. Today was my first time trying these. Verdict? They’re pretty good! I’d for sure get this again :)

Lunch! I pack a TON of food and usually only eat half of it. So today I ended up having 1/2 a PB& J (not shown), the strawberry Chobani with granola, some of the carrots, and the grapes! (No Emerald breakfast to go for me today :( )

The afternoon snack :) and proof that I am, in fact, an oatmeal addict…Oatmeal round 2! Rolled oats, a little chocolate protein powder, bananas, strawberries, and a few raisins! First time trying this recipe..super yummy! For sure making this again!

(Last night’s) Dinner! Organic spinach ravioli with chicken, asparagus, sun dried tomatoes, and olives! A regular around my house…SO good! Not sure what’s in store for tonight yet!
